Notorious burglar arrested, 22 Tolas of gold ornaments recovered

JAMMU: The Jammu Police arrested a notorious burglar, who is allegedly involved in number of burgelry cases and stolen property worth Rs 7 lakh was recovered from him.
The accused has been identified as Chandan Kumar, son of Dev Raj, resident of village Chalwara, district Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
“Chandan Kumar, a habitual offender, was involved in many burglary cases of different police stations of Jammu City,” SDPO City South Rafiq Manhas told reporters.
In view of the recent increase in burglary cases, Manhas said, SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta constituted a special team comprising of Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia SHO Gandhi Nagar, SI Kali Charan Incharge Police Post Digiana and SI Sandeep Charak Incharge Police Post Nehru Market under the supervision of him and Incharge SP City South Vinay Kumar.
The team after hectic efforts, he said, arrested Chandan Kumar from Punjab in case FIR No. 19/2018 under Section 454/380 RPC of Police Station Gandhi Nagar Jammu and was put on sustained questioning.
The aforesaid burglar, Rafiq said, confessed his involvement in number of burglary cases of different police stations of Jammu city and on his disclosure gold ornaments weighing 22 Tolas worth Rs 7 lakh were recovered.
“The gold ornaments include six gold chains, three gold necklace, four gold rings, four pairs gold tops, one pair gold Jhumka, two pairs of Payal and one gold Nath,” he said.
The questioning of the accused person is going on and possibility of more recoveries at this stage can’t be ruled out, he added.
Meanwhile, police also arrested one drug peddler and recovered 15 grams heroin from his possession in Belicharana on the outskirts of Jammu city.
Police registered a case under relevant sections and started investigations.
