The fear of Covid-19 dampened the Holi celebrations in the city on Monday.

With two patients detected with ‘high load virus’ a few days ago and one confirmed Covid-19 case on Monday, most of the people of Jammu preferred to cancel their Holi celebrations.

Though many youngsters were in the street celebrating the festival in their own style, yet the number was quite low this time.

“Holi is a festival of colours. We use to go to our friends and relatives’ homes to celebrate, but this time we chose to stay back home due to the deadly virus spreading across the world. We wished people on the phone and celebrated Holi at home with family only,” said Surinder Sharma, a resident of Janipur.“Health of our loved ones is the first priority for us and we don’t want to put the lives of ours family members at risk. This Holi is dedicated to good health for all,” he added.

As the Health Department of Jammu and Kashmir has also issued an advisory to avoid crowded places and take other precautions, people in Jammu have started wearing masks and using alcohol-based hand sanitisers. Most of the people are avoiding shaking hands to greet others.
