Honda Cars India today launched the BS6-compliant petrol variant of City for an introductory price of Rs 9.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The mid-size sedan, which rivals against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid, is the first vehicle in its segment to comply with the upcoming emission norms.

Powering the new City BS6 is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, water-cooled, SOHC, i-VTEC petrol engine that delivers 119 PS and 145 Nm of peak torque. The mill comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is an option for a CVT, with a segment-first 7-speed paddle shifter on offer. The claimed mileage figures for the manual and CVT variants are 17.4 kmpl and 18 kmpl, respectively.

Honda City is also available with a diesel engine option -- 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, water-cooled, DOHC, i-DTEC motor that produces 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel motor is only BS4-compliant as of now and a BS6 variant will be introduced at a subsequent date. This mill is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, with a claimed mileage figure in the north of 25 kmpl.
