Vice Chancellor M Jagdish Kumar met the students for the first time on Saturday following the January 5 violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He said that security of the university has been increased in the past so that innocent students are not injured.

Speaking to the students, the VC said that terror was spread to such an extent by some student activists that some of our students had to leave the hostel out of fear. In the last few days, we have increased security in the university so that innocent students are not hurt.

The VC also said that it is a big problem that many illegal students are staying in hostels, they can be outsiders, they can also participate in some kind of violence which has nothing to do with the university.

Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor Professor M. Jagadish Kumar said that classes will start from January 13 under the winter semester. If needed, the date of application will be extended in winter semester registration.

Currently, students can register by January 12. Apart from this, there is a chance to register with late fees by 20 January. He appealed to the students to end the agitation and return to classes.

To solve the JNU issue, on Friday morning, the Central Government's Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare along with the Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar and Registrar Prof. Pramod Kumar met. The meeting discussed ending the ongoing agitation in the university and starting classes under the academic calendar.
