In an unusual move, the CPM-led Kerala Government on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court challenging the validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, becoming the first state to move the top court against the contentious law.

It contended that the CAA violated principles of equality, freedom, and secularism and went against the basic structure of the Constitution.
