Sangeet Natak Akademi’s ‘Desaj’ festival concludes

Sangeet Natak Akademi’s “Desaj”–a festival celebrating the diverse cultural tradition of Bharat concluded here.
The festival was supported by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Ladakh Theatre Organisation (LTO), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and Ministry of Culture.
The three days national festival was a part of “Sankalp Se Siddhi”, celebrating the New India Movement 2017-22 programme.
The programme was inaugurated by LAHDC Chairman Dr Sonam Dawa, in which artist from 13 different States exhibited their unique cultural and folk dances.
During the three days festival, the artists from 13 different States left the audience spell bound with variety of performances.
In his inaugural address, CEC Dr Sonam Dawa said that traditionally theatre was a part of Ladakhi society as it used to be the only medium for entertainment, information and educating the public about different issues being faced by the society.
Dr Dawa assured all possible support to the LTO Director for his endeavour in the field of theatre.
Responding to media query, LTO Director Mipham Otsal who is also a member of Sangeet Natak Akademi General Council and Advisory committee member of Folk Art and Tribal Art form, said this programme aims to promote the traditional tribal folk songs and dances to make their root strong and this is the 13th such programme held in different parts of nation.
He said that the venue for holding such programme was selected by Sangeet Natak Akademi General Council members and Advisory committee member of Folk Art and Tribal Art form and this time the member unanimously chose Ladakh to conduct the 13th Desaj. He added that such programme cost them in crores of rupees as each 13 States artist team comprises of fifteen members and all expenses were borne by the Akademi.
In the end, Sangeet Natak Akademi Project Coordinator Amit Saxena presented the vote of thanks.
