Virtually left to die in a state of comma, Vijay Sharma of Chhan Arorian in Kathua got a saviour in Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, who lend a helping hand and got Rs 3 lakh financial assistance sanctioned from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (NRF) for his specialised treatment in Ludhiana.
Vijay Sharma, son of Sardari Lal of Chhan Arorian received serious injuries during one of the protest marches in Kathua in support of the demand for CBI probe into the unfortunate Rassana rape and murder case. The poor family found itself left in lurch as those spearheading the agitation and taking political mileage out of the tragic sequence of events did not looked back to even ask about the status of seriously injured Vijay Sharma.
On being informed about the critical condition of injured Vijay Sharma, the MoS in the PMO arranged for his shifting to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. He managed a cash assistance of Rs 50,000 for the treatment of the patient in the first instance. However, the expenses on the treatment were anticipated more, beyond the reach of the poor family.
Dr Jitendra Singh took up the issue with Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Due to his personal efforts, the assistance was not only enhanced but an assurance was held out to the Hospital about meeting the entire expenses of treatment of the injured Vijay Sharma.
On June 5, a grant of Rs 3,00,000 (50,000 +2,50,000) was sanctioned out of the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to partially defray the expenses involved in the treatment of the injured.
Subsequently, in a communication to the Medical Superintendent, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, Under Secretary (Funds) in the PMO, A K Das sought details of the actual expenditure incurred on the treatment of the patient. The hospital was also asked to directly requisition the funds in the prescribed format for releasing the payment. When contacted MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh said, the poor family needed financial assistance to ensure proper treatment of their young son. He said initially a sum of Rs 50,000, which was subsequently replenished with another Rs 2.50 lakh was sanctioned from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
