Guv asks SVO to bring erring govt officials to book

Srinagar: Governor N N Vohra on Wednesday advised the State Vigilance Organisation to launch a vigorous campaign for bringing the erring government officials to book, taking up the cases of higher level functionaries first.
The Governor also asked the Director Vigilance to send him a monthly progress report.
He made these observations during a meeting with Director Vigilance S J M Gillani, who called on him here, an official spokesman said after the meeting.
“Governor advised Gillani to prioritise the finalisation of pending enquiries and launch a vigorous campaign for the offenders to be brought to book, the cases of higher level functionaries being taken up among the first lot,” the spokesman said
Gillani apprised Vohra about the present status of the work being done by the State Vigilance Organisation.
He also informed the Governor about the pendency of cases, reasons for delay in the finalisation of enquiries and the lodging of Challans, prolonged delays for conclusion of proceedings in the trial courts and inadequacy of staff in the prosecution Offices of the recently created Anti-Corruption Courts.
ADGP CID, A.G Mir also met the Governor and briefed him about the work being done by his Directorate and about certain arising developments in the State.
Meanwhile, Mohd Shafi Pandit, former Chairman, J&K Public Service Commission (PSC), also called on the Governor and
informed him about the results so far achieved and the activities being presently undertaken to provide coaching to students who are preparing for the Civil Services Examination and for admission to IITs, particularly those belonging to the minority communities.
Governor urged Pandit, to vigorously continue his endeavours for promoting the prospects of youth, on all fronts.
