The programme started with Aarti Pujan amidst chanting of Vedic path by the monks.
Swami Nirantarananda Maharaj, while delivering welcome address, said “Swami Vivekananda visited Jammu and Kashmir twice, in 1897 and 1898. His dream of having a centre of Ramakrishna Mission in the State of Jammu and Kashmir came true when this centre was established in Jammu on December 6, 2000. In fact, a monk, named Shaktichaitanya Maharaj who started living here in 1965 and handed over this Ashram to Ramakrishna Mission. Then the Centre under the leadership of Swami Girijeshananda, the first Secretary of the Centre, achieved tremendous developments.”
A brief report on Sewa activities by Ramakrishna Mission Jammu was read out by Swami Sunishchalananda, Ramakrishna Mission, Jammu.
The huge audience was then addressed by Chief Guest Swami Muktidanandaji Maharaj. Dr. Wazir (Medical Centre) and Suhash Joshi, Architect were also felicitated on the occasion.
In his address, Dr Jitendra Singh said Ramakrishna Mission is doing enormous Sewa work in the field of education, medical and relief works round the years throughout the country and abroad.
Emphasizing the importance of blending tradition with modernity, Dr Jitendra Singh said the Ramakrishna Mission has set the most remarkable example of achieving this. He said the hallmark of Vivekananda’s doctrine is that while it is deeply embedded in India’s heritage, at the same time, it envisages the vision of future India several decades ahead.
To meet the contemporary challenges faced in India, however, Dr Jitendra Singh suggested the need to revisit some of the areas in education sector. Just as science without religion is incomplete and religion without science is inadequate, similarly, he said, education without vocational skill does not serve its full purpose, while vocational skill without education fails to live up to its desired objective.
Referring to a number of youth related and student oriented programmes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during last two years, Dr Jitendra Singh said, whether it is Startup India or Digital India, all these are aimed at raising the capacity potential of youth to a level where they can lead the rest of the world.
