District Jammu dominates opening day of Khelo India State Volleyball C’ship

JAMMU: District Jammu dominated the opening day of Khelo India State Volleyball Championship, organised by Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council at Volleyball Courts, MA Stadium, here.
The championship is being held in under-17 years categories in both sections.
District Jammu entered the finals of both boys and girls sections.
Earlier the championship was declared open by the Chief Guest, Member of Legislative Council, Vikram Randhawa.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest underlined the importance of such competitions for development of overall personalities of youth.
He said that games provide great opportunity to the youth from different parts of the State to connect with one another and know about culture of different regions.
Appreciating the efforts of all office bearers of Volleyball Association of J&K headed by Sidharth Daluja President, the Chief Guest assured full financial support for strengthening infrastructure of volleyball courts including fencing, toilets, change room facilities, etc after revocation of code of conduct presently imposed in J&K State due to Panchayat elections.
He called upon all players, participants to strengthen the bonds of unity and diversity by exchanging their culture, customs and traditions enriching the cultural heritage of the country. Welcoming the dignitaries, General Secretary VAJK V.K Magotra disclosed the aim and objectives of the championship which has reached in the final stage after the conduct of District level Championships in six districts of the State.
“Cash incentives to the tune of Rs. 36,000, Rs. 24,000 and Rs. 12,000 respectively have been earmarked for best three teams in both the sections,” he said.
The artists of Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan also enthralled the audience by presenting culture of all the three regions of the State on the occasion.
Amongst dignitaries Sidharth Daluja President, Kuldip Magotra Chief Executive Officer, H.S Gill Executive Vice President, R.C Sharma Treasurer, Mohd Tariq Executive Member of VAJK, Ravi Singh Divisional Sports Officer Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council (J), Variender Sharma Incharge SAI Training Center Jammu, office bearers of various sports bodies and volleyball were present in the the opening ceremony . The Chief Guest was honoured with presentation of a memento by president and office bearers of Volleyball Association of J&K.

BOYS: Baramulla beat Rajouri 2-1 (22-25, 25-22, 15-02 ); Jammu defeated Poonch by 2-0 (25-18, 25-20); Baramulla trounced Anantnag 2-0 (25-14, 25-17); Jammu outplayed Pulwama 2-0 (25-06, 25-04); Rajouri downed Anantnag 2-0 (25-22, 25-10).
Semifinals: Jammu beat Rajouri 2-0 (25-13, 25-9) and Poonch outplayed Baramulla 2-1 (25-13, 21-25, 15-4).
GIRLS: Jammu beat Anantnag 2-1 (25-11, 21-25, 15-03); Poonch defeated Pulwama 2-0 (25-04, 25-07); Anantnag trounced Rajouri 2-1 (28-26, 23-25, 15-06); Baramulla beat Pulwama 2-0 (25-11, 25-09); Jammu outplayed Rajouri 2-0 (25-10, 25-12); Baramulla beat Poonch 2-0 (25-15, 25-12).
Semifinals: Jammu trounced Poonch 2-0 (25-10, 25-6) and Anantnag outplayed Baramulla 2-0 (25-05, 25-18).
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising VFI Referee Naresh Kumar Sharma and Mulkh Raj Sharma.
Tomorrow’s fixtures: BOYS: Rajouri to face Baramulla for third place at 10:00 AM and Jammu shall meet Poonch in final at 3:00 PM. GIRLS: Poonch to face Baramulla for third place at 10:00 AM and Jammu shall meet Anantnag in final at 1:00 PM.
In the final and closing ceremony, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Kanta Rakwal has consented to be the Chief Guest who will distribute prizes among the winner and runner-up teams.
