Punjab Cabinet Minister Tript Rajinder Bajwa on Saturday asked cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu to resign if has no faith in Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Bajwa's reaction came after Sidhu said that it was Congress president Rahul Gandhi who sent him there for attending the foundation laying ceremony of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and that he was his 'captain'.

Sidhu's visit had riled Punjab Chief Minister Captain (retd) Amarinder Singh, who said on record he tried to dissuade Sidhu, a member of his cabinet, following a grenade attack on a religious congregation in Amritsar that left three people dead, but he paid no heed.

"Rahul Gandhi is the 'captain' of all of us, but in Punjab, Amarinder Singh is our captain. If Sidhu ji has no faith in Amarinder Singh, it is his moral duty to resign." said Bajwa.

The minister also said that though he is making the appeal, it is up to Sidhu to decide.

"Sidhu ji, you are a special person. You have blessings and the god has given you extra quality. Your dreams are big and I wish all of them are fullfilled. But the way you speak without thinking, it won't let you reach anywhere," Bajwa said.

Bajwa also said that cricketer-turned-politician is not understanding what to say and what not to. Yesterday, he said Rahul Gandhi sent him to Pakistan and today he has gone back on his words."

Earlier on Friday, Sidhu had stirred a controversy saying Rahul Gandhi is his captain and it is he who sent him to Pakistan. "Rahul Gandhi is the captain of the captain (Amarinder) also," Sidhu told a press conference when asked about Singh's disapproval of his Pakistan trip.

The Congress leader, however, described the Punjab chief minister as a "father figure" to him.

However, later Sidhu tweeted that Rahul Gandhi never asked him to go to Pakistan. "The whole world knows I went on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s personal invite," Sidhu tweeted.
