Fresh snowfall after 30 hours of clear weather threw life out of gear in Chenab Valley today, forcing people indoors. Reports said that 350 light motor vehicles stranded at different places in Doda and Kishtwar districts were allowed to move yesterday evening but the fresh snowfall forced the authorities to stop the vehicular movement again today morning. "After fresh overnight snowfall which continued till 11am in Bhadarwah, Gandoh and Doda, we were compelled to suspend the vehicular traffic on Batote-Kishtwar Highway in the morning as a precautionary measure. We were waiting for the clearance from Patni-Top to ensure the safety of the passengers," said DySP Traffic NH1B Aftab Ahmed. "After improvement in the weather, both the Highways NH1 and NH1B were thrown open for one-way vehicular traffic. As of now, all kinds of stranded vehicles are moving towards Jammu smoothly and by 2 pm 500 heavy and light vehicles from Doda and Kishtwar districts have crossed Batote," he added. Meanwhile, people have complained that essentials are disappearing from the market rapidly and appealed to the authorities to keep a check on the hoarders.
