MS Dhoni edged past Chris Gayle to head the list for most sixes in the Indian Premier League this season.

The Chennai Super Kings skipper, who has been in breathtaking form this year, has blasted 24 sixes from nine innings. Chris Gayle (KXIP), AB de Villiers (RCB) and Andre Russell (KKR) have hit 23 sixes each.

Dhoni has not been in great T20 form in recent years. However, the 36-year-old has batted like a man possessed in IPL 2018.
He walked in to bat in the 12th over when Chennai Super Kings were seemingly in a spot of bother against Kolkata Knight Riders. Suresh Raina had just perished to Kuldeep Yadav and KKR were looking to make inroads into the match with the help of their spinners.

Run-scoring was not easy and when CSK lost Ambati Rayudu to Sunil Narine, it looked like KKR would restrict the visitors to a modest total.

But Dhoni took things in his own hands and smashed four sixes including two off Mitchell Johnson in his third over and remained not out on a 25-ball 43.\
On Tuesday, Dhoni raced away to 51 not out off only 22 balls. Back in 2012, he had smashed a 20-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians in Bangalore.

This is how he smashed the four maximums in his 25-ball 43:

15.5 overs, Shivam Mavi to Dhoni: Short ball outside off, Dhoni rocks back and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie.

16.2 overs, Johnson to Dhoni: That is as flat as it can get! Short and on the body of Dhoni. He swivels inside his crease and pulls it flat over the backward square leg fence.

16.5 overs, Johnson to Dhoni: Full and right in the zone for Dhoni. He smashes it over the long on fence for the second biggie of the over.

17.5 overs, Kuldeep to Dhoni: Short and on middle, Dhoni rocks back and pulls it. He has hit it flat towards Shubman Gill at deep square leg. Shubman there goes for the reverse cup but the ball bursts through his hands and goes over the fence.
