SSB football tourney to be held February

In order to bring out the hidden football potential of the youth in the state, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is going to conduct a football tournament in the last week of February on the theme, ‘Catch them young, let us have fun’.
A total of 40 teams comprising local clubs, teams of subdivisions in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban, will take part in the upcoming event. This was informed today by Rajinder Bhumbla, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), SSB, Srinagar, and Manvendra Negi, DIG, Jammu.

In all, 12 teams from the Jammu district while 10 from Udhampur district and six teams each from Samba, Reasi and Ramban will participate in the tournament.

“The SSB has requested the Director, Youth Services and Sports, and the J&K State Sports Council, for sparing a football ground and providing all possible assistance in terms of technicians needed for the conduct of the tournament in all these five districts. At the district level, the tournament will be played on a knock-out basis,” an SSB statement said.

DIG Manvendra Negi said the winner of the district-level football tournament will qualify for the inter-district tournament to be organised in Jammu. He said the SSB would provide kit items, including jerseys, to all the participating teams.
