N Chandrababu Naidu said he addressed Narendra Modi as "sir" to satisfy his ego even though the Prime Minister was junior to him in politics.

In the all-party meeting in Amravati, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief said, "When I met then US President Bill Clinton, I addressed him as Mr. Clinton, not as 'sir'. Modi is my junior in politics. But when he came (to power), I addressed him as sir 10 times. I did this for the sake of the state and to satisfy his ego in the hope that he will do justice to the state."

He said even the alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 was for the sake of the state.

At the meeting, he also called for state-wide protests on February 1, when the central government will present the budget in Parliament, terming it a 'black day', an observation he retracted within hours.

He, however, asked the public to stage protests in varied forms from February 1 to 13, demanding that 'justice' be done to the state by fulfilling all promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Meanwhile, TDP MPs continued their protest in front of the Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises, demanding special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The TDP earlier held protests during the Winter Session of Parliament in December last year to press for their demands. The demand to bring Andhra Pradesh under the Special Category gained momentum after the region split into two states.
