Rice worth Rs 1.35 crore found missing from Leh General Store

As per a verification conducted by a committee constituted by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Leh, in July this year, shortages of 5,430.32 quintals of rice has been found against two storekeepers of the General Store Leh.
As per the document accessed by STATE TIMES on Wednesday, the department has calculated the loss/shortages found to the tune of worth Rs 1,35,75,800. According to sources, the committee has done the verification of opening and closing balance from 2013-14 onwards.
On finding huge variation between closing and opening balance, the Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Leh vide letter No: FCS&CA /shortage/FG/2017-18/539-46 dated August 28, 2017, has asked concerned storekeepers to remit the outstanding amount into government treasury. However, it is learnt from reliable sources that later the two officials have been placed under suspension and an enquiry into the case has been initiated at Directorate level and the charge of the General Store has been given to two other storekeepers.
When contacted AD, FCS&CA Leh Office for comments on the case, the officer was in no position to share details of the case to the media on the pretext of the case being investigated.
