People of Bhadarwah town claim it is a ‘disgrace and discrimination’ that the only public toilet of the tourism town is kept locked even after four months of its official inauguration, leaving visitors in general and women folk in particular to face the miseries and humiliation in absence of public conveniences.
People of Bhaderwah expressed grave concern over the non functioning of Vishwa Jan Toilet Complex in the area, even after its proper inauguration on 11th November last year by the BJP MLA Daleep Singh Parihar in presence of Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu Shushma Chouhan.
According to reports, Bhadarwah town which is famous for its mundane beauty and unique landscape, receives hundreds of visitors including tourists everyday but surprisingly the high-end town was without any public conveniences till recently and people have been demanding for a proper toilet blocks since decades.
After a lot of persuasion and angry outburst by the locals, authorities finally managed to convince Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Sulabh International to built a public conveniences- Vishwa Jan Toilet Complex, under Swacch Bharat Mission in 2015,at Old Hospital Bhadarwah, on Chobia Link Road.
Surprisingly, the said structure took a marathon one and a half year to complete and after its completion, locals alleged that authorities took another seven months waiting for the local MLA to inaugurate the toilet complex in November 2017. But the miseries did not end here, as since its inauguration, the complex mostly remained locked leaving people especially visitors to face the uncomfortable and some time humiliating situation.
A local resident of Bhadarwah town, Mohd Ashraf said that after putting in a lot of efforts and persuasion we had a sigh of relief, as the toilet complex was finally inaugurated by the administration in November 2017 with a lot of fanfare but our contentment lasted for only a couple of days as the said complex, which is the only public conveniences of Bhadarwah town have been locked since last three months for unknown reasons.
When contacted Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bhadarwah Imam Din Kitchloo said, “This is a matter of grave concern and as soon and the issue came into my notice, I immediately took up the matter with Executive Officer of Bhadarwah Municipal Committee as they are responsible to run and maintain the public toilets in the town.”
