The demand for abrogating SRO-202 has gained momentum as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has written to Home Minister Amit Shah to amend rules to give relief to the youth of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his letter to the Home Minister, Azad said the notification of SRO-202 was issued by the general administrative department on June 30, 2015, notifying the J&K Special Recruitment Rules.

“The rules prescribe that a person appointed shall be on a probation of five years and during the five years, the appointee shall be entitled to only the basic pay and not to any allowances,” Azad wrote.

He wrote, “The standard recruitment rules only provided two years of probation and thus this provision in SRO-202 is discriminatory. Denying the due increment will also have a detrimental effect on the service and pension of the appointee and will lead to a pay anomaly in future.”
