Former Finance Minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in Kathua road accident.

Lamenting that road mishap deaths have reached an alarming proportion in J&K, Bukhari called for urgent measures by Lt-Governor GC Murmu-led administration to curb such accidents and payment of ex gratia to the victim families.

Bukhari extended solidarity with the bereaved families of nine deceased, including women and children, and prayed for the early recovery of five passengers who sustained injuries in the collision in Kathua district.

Nearly 1,000 persons have lost their lives in 5,800 accidents in J&K last year alone, Bukhari said, terming the figures extremely disturbing.
