Better services by private courier companies and ‘home pick and drop’ facility has made old familiar red coloured letter boxes, which adorned the streets of Jammu for decades, irrelevant.

Very few people drop their letters in these boxes as private operators have slowly replaced government -controlled postal service.

In a majority of city areas, red letter boxes, a legacy of about 100-years, have been left to rust.

Though the Postal Department is still functioning and offering services, yet a majority of people prefer to use private courier companies having much better delivery mechanism and tracking facility.
