The coronavirus scare is slowly affecting the economic activity in Jammu and Kashmir as trader bodies and owners of shopping malls say they are witnessing a drop in the sales and the number of shoppers.
With two positive cases of Covid-19 being treated at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, and government advisories, including closing down of cinema halls and primary-level educational institutions till March 31, many families are restricting their visits to crowded places and shopping centres.
“We are observing a fall in the number of shoppers for the past one week. People are cautiously touching products and can be seen using sanitisers. Many shoppers are not bringing their children along,” said the manager of one of the biggest shopping centres in Jammu.
