Number of COVID-19 cases rises to 125 in J&K

The total number of positive cases in J&K have risen to 125. Out of these, 118 are active, including 94 in Kashmir division and 24 in Jammu province. Four cases, three from Jammu and one from the Valley, have been cured. With one more death, three Covid patients, all from the Kashmir valley, have lost their lives. Sources said out of total six who tested positive on Tuesday, five belonged to the Tablighi Jamaat. These activists were quarantined in a mosque on the outskirts of Jammu since March 24. “Out of the total 22 Tablighi activists, who are quarantined, five tested positive today”, a police spokesman said. Police sources said a majority of the Tablighi activists who were quarantined were outsiders and preaching in different areas of Jammu. “Out of the five positive Tablighi activists, three are outsiders but have been living in Jammu since long and had attended the Nizammudin congregation”, a source said. As per official handout issued by the government a total of 37,713 cases are under surveillance so far. Out of these, 20,735 are under home surveillance while surveillance of 7,084 has been completed. The authorities have collected 1,900 samples for test, out of which 1,763 tested negative, 125 positive and reports of 18 tests are awaited. As many as 9,213 persons have been kept under home quarantine while 567 suspected cases have been quarantined in the hospital.
