The Supreme Court on Friday refused to pass any order with regard to the sale of liquor amid the ongoing coronavirus-triggered lockdown in the country. The apex court disposed off a petition that had sought clarity on the sale of liquor in the country. The plea had also sought court’s instruction on ensuring social distancing during sale of liquor in designated shops during the lockdown. The Supreme Court, however, asked states to decide on home delivery of liquor so that social distancing and other lockdown rules could be enforced. We will not pass any order but the states should consider indirect sale/home delivery of liquor to maintain social distancing norms and standards, said Justice Ashok Bhushan, leading the apex court bench.
