J&K - Jammu sees second coronavirus casualty

With the death of a coronavirus-infected man, the Covid-19 casualty in Jammu has reached two. The man, 72, a resident of Preet Nagar, Digiana, was declared brought dead at Government Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday night. “Since he was brought dead to the hospital, his family members requested doctors to conduct his coronavirus test, which they did. He tested positive,” said Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College, Jammu. The family revealed the deceased’s son had a travel history as he had recently come to Jammu from Delhi. We informed the Chief Medical Officer concerned immediately as well as the epidemiologist of the area to conduct exhaustive testing and sampling of all family members, said the Medical Superintendent. Station House Officer (SHO), Digiana police station, Sandeep Kumar said as the report of the coronavirus death was received from Preet Nagar, the area was immediately sealed off. As per the directions from the authorities, we have sealed the mohalla. The adjacent areas may also be sealed as a precautionary measure, said the SHO. With the new death, the toll in the UT has risen to 11 of them, nine deaths have occurred in Kashmir.
