It has been decided to merge the three non-technical and five technical railway services of the Indian Railways to form the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS). There is discontent among non-technical officials about this. Now he has written a letter to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Railway Minister, Chairman of Railway Board and representatives of Personnel and Training Department against the decision.

The Chairman of the Railway Board (CRB) on Thursday evening held a three-hour video conference to discuss the merger with traffic, personnel and account service officials. However, he failed to quell their fears and dissatisfaction. Through postcards, officials termed the merger a one-sided decision taken by non-technical railway officials without proper representation through civil services. He requested the government to give him the option to change his service if the merger would be done.

Officials claim that around 10,000 postcards have been sent from different parts of the country. The officer who participated in the video conference said, "How can CRBs claim in a video conference with all railway officials that traffic officers do nothing. They do not maintain any property. They do not go to accident places, nor do they observe etc. It is very partisan and subversive. '

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday announced the merger of the eight services, calling the decision unanimous. Which was taken to work on measures to end departmentalism during the two-day discussion held on December 7 and 8 with the utmost support of all the officials in the change seminar. Officials however say that the seminar consisted of 12 teams which were represented by the General Managers of Indian Engineering Services. It was the general manager of traffic, accounts and personnel who together form the managerial and administrative base of the organization.

Accounts, personnel and traffic officers are selected through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) from among the eight services of the Railways, for which people from non-technical and humanities backgrounds can apply. At the same time, officers of electrical, engineering, stores, mechanical, signaling and telecom are selected through Indian Engineering Services.
