15 Sikh pilgrims among killed as train hits bus in Pakistan's Sheikhupura

| Karachi (Pakistan) |

As many as sixteen people were reported killed when a train collided with a passenger van at an unmanned railway crossing, in Pakistan Friday. The incident took place at around 1.30 PM on Friday near Sheikhupura in Pakistan's Punjab province. It has now been confirmed that at least 15 of the deceased were Sikh pilgrims aboard the passenger van, reported. Preliminary inputs have revealed that the Shah Hussain Express, on its way from Karachi to Lahore, struck a passenger van carrying Sikh pilgrims at an unmanned railway crossing somewhere between Farooqabad and Behali railway station.
As per reports, railway authorities have moved the bodies of the deceased to a local hospital. The injured were provided first aid by locals and are undergoing treatment.
The tracks have been cleared and operations were resumed once the rescue operation was termed complete, railway officials said. A divisional engineer has been suspended by Pakistan's railway ministry in the aftermath of the accident that has claimed as many as 29 lives, reported Dawn.
The report adds that the Sikh pilgrims who died in the collision were returning to Peshawar from Nankana Sahib where they were visiting relatives. In a tweet on Friday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said that Pakistan PM Imran Khan has expressed regret over the train accident in Sheikhupura. "Expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and directed to provide best medical aid to the injured," the tweet adds.
