Jammu enters into a weekend lockdown

Beginning this evening, with the clock striking 6, the Jammu district enters into a 60-hour-long weekend lockdown.
As announced by the administration on July 19, the weekend lockdown would be observed every week till further orders. The move is aimed at containing the spread of Corona virus. As of Friday afternoon, 290 people had died due to the pandemic.
In view of the fast growing cases of Corona Infections, Sushma Chauhan, DC and District Chairman of Disaster Management in Jammu district implemented the weekend lockdown in the district from July 24. The District Deputy Commissioner had decided the weekend lockdown while exercising the powers under Section 144 of CrPC. There will be complete restriction on movement of persons, vehicles and all activities during lockdown. Only in view of the emergency needs of health, there will be movement. Passengers going to the airport and railway station will be allowed to proceed by showing tickets.
Similarly, the staff of the railway station, airport will be allowed to move by showing identity cards. Employees of departments with essential services in government departments will also be allowed to go further by showing the identity card. No curfew pass will be issued in the district. Petrol, diesel, LPG tankers and vehicles carrying essential commodities will be allowed to move.
DC said that strict action will be taken against those who violate the order. Drug shops, fruit, vegetable, and dairy shops will remain open during the lockdown. Keeping in mind the daily needs of the people, it has been decided to keep these shops open.
A lockdown of two days has been imposed in the Kashmir Valley from Thursday. Apart from this, there is also a lockdown in District Samba as many cases of corona are coming up in these districts. In such a situation, strict action has been taken by the administration.
