Pune overtakes Delhi, records highest number of COVID-19 cases in country

Pune, the city in Maharashtra, which was recently tagged as India�s "corona capital", has surpassed Delhi in terms of the number of persons infected with COVID-19, recording the highest number of coronavirus infections in the country. While Pune district's COVID cases reached 175,105, Delhi�s tally stands at 1,74,748.
Currently it has over 52,000 patients, while Mumbai has around 20,000 and Delhi�s tally of active cases stands at 14,626. Maharashtra�s capital Mumbai, which has also witnessed a huge number of coronavirus cases, at present has 1,45,805 cases and 7,658 patients have succumbed till now. The Pune district recorded 73 COVID-19 related deaths on Monday, taking the fatalities count to 4,134. Meanwhile, 11,852 more people tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra on August 31, taking the COVID-19 tally to 7,92,541. 184 more patients succumbed to the infection, taking the states� death toll count to 24,583. Notably, as far as states are concerned, Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country. In August, Pune's first sero survey found that over 50 per cent of residents from five high-incidence areas in the city have been exposed to the COVID-19 infection. The survey, which is done to detect the presence of specific antibodies, and assess the prevalence of a disease in the population, was conducted by taking samples of 1,664 respondents. Delhi recorded 1,358 fresh coronavirus cases on August 31, taking the tally to over 1.74 lakh. the bulletin of Delhi Health department said that the national capital 18 more COVID-19 patients succumbed in the last 24 hours, pushing the fatalities count to 4,444.
