At 68,020, India sees biggest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases since October

India recorded 68,020 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest since October last year, confirmed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday. Apart from the record-breaking cases, 291 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours. The addition of more than 68,000 fresh cases has taken the total tally to 1.20 crore while the virus-related death toll has now risen to 1.61 lakh in the country. According to the Health Ministry, 1.13 crore people have recovered from coronavirus so far, out of which 32,231 recoveries were reported yesterday alone. The total number of active cases in the country stands at 5.21 lakh. Meanwhile, a total of 6.05 crore citizens have been vaccinated against the deadly infection so far. According to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), 24.1 crore samples have been tested up to March 28 with 9.1 lakh samples being tested on Saturday.
