"Two samosas, one chai and one water bottle for 490 Rs at Mumbai airport!! Kafi ache din aa gae hain. It’s no secret that airport food is an outrageously overpriced service but when a journalist shared her snack ordeal online, Bhakts were having none of it. Farah Khan revealed in a Twitter post Wednesday how she ended up paying for Rs 490 for “two Samosas, one chai and one water bottle” at the Mumbai airport and concluded the tweet by saying “Kafi ache din aa gae hain” - a scathing parting shot at the BJP government’s slogan. It included photos of the product and a bill stating that she spent Rs 490 on Ginger Tea, two pieces of Samosa and a water bottle.Shortly after the post went viral, Khan was trolled for complaining about food prices at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) when the expense was a squeaker compared to what her airfare would have been. “Aunty, Then why u didn't preferred Train Journey which gives Two Samosas at 30 ₹, one chai at 10 ₹ and purified Water worth free of cost? It would have shown you common man's real acche din,” Many even took offence to the Achche Din jibe. “Before 2014 u were struggling to have samosas on the streets of Mumbai. Today u are able to fly & pay 490RS for samosa, tea & a water bottle!! Aur ketne ache din chaiye hai aapko”.
Yet many armchair experts sought to excuse the high food prices, citing reasons such as “24X7 staff, high rental costs, private airport operator fees & maintaining inventory” in defence.
