The main function in this connection was held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, Jammu. A large number of devotees participated in the function. The Gurdwara at Chand Nagar was highly decorated by the management committee and the devotees started visiting to pay their obeisance and seek blessings of great Guru since early morning. District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu greeted entire Sikh community of the world and the global humanity on the Prakash Divas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The day was celebrated with great fervour throughout the country by all sections of society as the great Guru has taught the great values to the human mankind. On the occasion, people from all walks of life participated in which Giani Maan Singh from Darbar Sahib Amritsar, Ragi Jatha Bhai Shubdeep Singh from Darbar Sahib and Ragi Jatha Bhai Kanwaljeet Singh from Darbar Sahib, who were specially invited for the important occasion, recited Shabad Kirtan. They stressed on imbibing the higher values of life and communal harmony for which Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji strived. The Guru protected the weak and meek who does not have voice, they recalled. Local Ragi Jathas and preachers also participated and recited the Gurbani Kirtan and threw light on the history, life and teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu expressed gratitude to the administration including the district administration both civil and police officials, PHE, JMC and PDD for their services and arrangements made during the Nagar Kirtan conducted by the DGPC on 3rd of January and for today’s programme. The stage was conducted by the general secretary of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu. Vote of thanks was presented by the president of the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu Ranjit Singh Tohra. Balvinder Singh vice president extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Parkash Purab of great Guru and said that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj’s preaching has universal relevance and acceptance. Besides political personalities who were present during function included- Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma; Rattan Lal Gupta, Abdul Gani & Sheikh Bashir Ahmed from NC; Dr Harbaksh Singh DDC member Tral, other members of DGPC Jammu including Ranvir Singh joint secretary, Jagpal Singh- cashier, Gurmeet Singh & Harjit Singh Incharge Dharam Parchar DGPC, Tejinder Singh and Avtar Singh. DGPC Kathua led by its president Charanjeet Singh organised yet another function in connection with the Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Main Bazaar Kathua. Elaborated arrangements had been made by the management committee and local administration to mark the celebrations. At RS Pura Gurdwara, the Gurpurab celebrations were held with great enthusiasm and religious fervour. Sikh Sangat in large number besides other people visited the local Gurdwara and paid their obeisance. DCC Member Prof Garu Ram, Avtar Singh Chairman of the Committee, senior local leader Gurdeep Singh Saini and several others attended function. Similar functions were held at Samba, Udhampur, Rajouri, Nowshera, Akhnoor and other places across J&K in connection with the Gurpurab celebrations. Meanwhile, the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, also known as Prakash Purav, was commemorated today with religious enthusiasm and gaiety across the Valley. The main religious celebration honouring the 10th Sikh Guru’s birth anniversary was held in the Chhatti Padshahi Gurdwara in Rainawari, but followers flocked to other Gurdwaras in the Valley for prayers as well in spite of the bitter weather. In addition to prayers, the Gurudwaras offered Shabad Kirtans and langars for the devotees, and the spiritual leaders also explained Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s teachings. The 10th Guru, according to his devotees, was the model of selflessness and righteousness, and everyone should follow in his footsteps for the greater good of the world. “Guru Gobind Singh Ji will keep motivating people to live for the service of the society. With respect to all groups, we should take a lesson from his sacrifices for humanity’s well-being,” Harpreet Singh. The devotees said that without regard to caste, creed, or religion, Guru ji provided the Sikhs with the five Ks and turned them into a martial arts community for the protection of humanity. “He taught us to serve humanity without prejudice”. Similar celebrations were also held in Gurdwaras in various areas, including Tral, Rangreth, Pattan, Awantipora and Baramulla.
