You can read a number of inspiring stories about Amazon on the internet. Most of them will tell you about the struggles, breakthroughs, and innovations the company made in its journey to becoming the biggest e-commerce company in the world. Take this information as an example. Did you know the e-commerce giant wasn't always named after the world's largest ever? Yes, Amazon wasn't originally called Amazon. Jeff Bezos was forced to change the original name of the company because a lawyer misheard it as something morbid. Amazon's real name was Cadabra. Inc., as in 'abracadabra' when it began as an online bookshop in 1994. However, the name had to be changed because a lawyer heard it as 'cadaver', which means a corpse. Bezos ditched the first name because he didn't want his customers, potential customers, and supporters to link the company name with dead bodies. After choosing Amazon, Bezos said that the name was 'exotic and different'. "There's nothing about our model that can't be copied over time. But you know, McDonald's got copied. And it still built a huge, multibillion-dollar company. A lot of it comes down to the brand name. Brand names are more important online than they are in the physical world," Bezos told Inc magazine in 1997.
