The water level in the Ghaggar and Satluj rivers has started to drop even as the downstream flow of river water causes hardship in communities and cities situated along their banks. The water level in the Ghaggar at Bhankhapur (next to Dera Bassi) was measured early in the morning and was 11,555 cusecs, significantly lower than it was on Sunday when it had reached the danger threshold. The Narwana branch, 52 km from Bhankhapur, has reportedly experienced a rupture, which has caused nearby villages to flood. This is the reason for the flooding in Rajpura and Patiala. “We are on high alert and all steps are being taken to save lives and property,” said a senior official in the Irrigation department.
