DMK MP Tiruchi Siva, Congress MPs Imran Pratapgarhi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and AAP MP Raghav Chadha give a suspension of business notice in Rajya Sabha to discuss the Manipur situation.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore gives Adjournment Motion Notice in Lok Sabha, demanding to discuss Manipur situation.

‘Shameful for our country’: AAP leader on INDIA alliance wearing black ‘to make sure that PM talks about Manipur’

"This is shameful for our country that the INDIA opposition alliance has to wear black (to the Parliament) to make sure that PM talks about Manipur," says AAP leader Sandeep Pathak.

The debate on the one-line motion — which says the House has lost its confidence in the Union Council of ministers — is likely to start next week, two Lok Sabha officials said. The motion poses no threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration which commands a brute majority in the Lower House but the Opposition has signaled it wants to use the debate to try and corner the government on the continuing violence in Manipur.

“For the last over 84 days, the law-and-order system has broken down in Manipur, communities are divided, there is nothing in the name of the government there...all this compelled us to bring a no-confidence motion against the government,” senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said. At least 150 people have died in ethnic clashes in the northeastern state, and a 30-second video of a barbaric sexual assault of two women by a mob has sparked a nationwide outcry and jammed Parliament.

Why did only Congress and not the INDIA alliance sign the no-confidence motion? CPI MP responds

"That chapter is closed. No Confidence Motion is there in the Parliament now signed by a sufficient number of MPs. Not only the CPI but many parties feel that it would have been effective & meaningful if all the parties in India would have been represented in that Motion by signature...We all raised our objection to the Congress leadership in a responsible way. Congress understood it and their leadership was so democratic in understanding that they agreed that it happened out of hurry. We don't want to make it a big issue. All the parties will be together in fighting the BJP Govt inside & outside the Parliament..." CPI MP Binoy Viswam said.

JD(U) has issued three lined whips to the party's Rajya Sabha MPs for the Monsoon session of Parliament to support the party's stand by voting against the Bill. The party has asked all its members to be present at the House from July 27 till August 11.
RJD MP Manoj Jha gave a suspension of business notice in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the situation in Manipur.
