State Bank of India (SBI), the nation's largest lender, on Friday, reported its highest quarterly profit of Rs 16,884 crore for the April-June 2023-24 period, almost three times the Rs 6,068 crore a year ago. a sharp decline in bad loans and an increase in interest income.
Unreported payments fall to 2.76 percent of advances

Total revenue increased in 2023-2024. 1,08,039 crore in the first quarter of 2018, compared to Rs 74,989 crore in the same period a year earlier.
The bank's gross non-performing assets (NPAs) of all advances fell to 2.76 percent at the end of June from 3.91 percent a year ago.
The bank's net profit for the quarter more than doubled to 18,537 billion rubles compared to 7,325 billion rubles a year ago. Total revenue for the period was Rs 1,32,333 crore, compared to Rs 94,524 crore in the April-June 2022 period.
Some key measures such as margins and net interest margin weakened slightly from the previous quarter, while bad debts more than doubled, sending SBI shares up nearly 3 percent in the stock market. That's why chairman Dinesh Khare opened up his earnings data and wondered aloud why markets and analysts only look at consecutive numbers. "For a bank, the first quarter is unique because most institutions defer payments or expenses to the last quarter of the financial year. In our case, in the fourth quarter of '23, we had 830 trillion in interest income from tax refunds and others did not. -recurring profits, while in the first quarter, there are none at all.
"Therefore, a fair comparison is and should be annual and not consecutive; in the case of other political parties, I would have nothing against a consecutive comparison," said the president.
