A Russian warship was seriously damaged in an overnight drone attack by the Ukrainian Navy against the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, the first time the Ukrainian Navy projected its power far from the country's shores.
The port, which handles 2 percent of the world's oil reserves and also exports grain, temporarily suspended civilian shipping before returning to normal operations, according to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which operates the oil terminal there.
China participates in discussions regarding Ukraine.
China announced on Friday that it will send a senior official to Saudi Arabia to discuss Ukraine, a diplomatic coup for Kyiv and the West. Chinese Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui will visit Jeddah for negotiations, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the attack by two Ukrainian naval drones was repelled in the waters outside the base and the drones were destroyed.
A Ukrainian intelligence source said the Russian Navy's amphibious assault ship Olenegorski Gornyak, with about 100 soldiers on board, was hit by a seaplane.

The Novorossiysk strike is the first time a Russian commercial port has been targeted in the 18-month conflict. A source familiar with port operations said the large Russian naval vessel had to be towed to shore because it was unable to move under its own power due to damage.
The source, who did not name the ship, said the port was still loading oil and grain and had returned to normal operations an hour after the attack.
