While investigating the seizure of 18 kg of heroin from Dinanagar in Gurdaspur on July 27, the Punjab Police arrested five residents of JandK and seized drug money worth Rs 11,20,000 along with a Glock pistol, two magazines, and 46 live cartridges.
DIG (Border Zone) Dr. Narender Bhargav said this here today. During the investigation, the name of their Punjabi handler Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal, who hailed from Moga, also surfaced.
The contraband was said to have been brought from the Uri sector of Kashmir. Gurdaspur police busted a gang of international drug smugglers on July 27, arresting three persons, one of whom was a woman.
Acting on a tip-off, the police seized 18 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 80 million from them. They have been identified as Vikramjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh, and Sandeep Kaur.
They were in regular contact with Mandeep Singh on the phone even when the police caught up. They came from Srinagar after recovering the medicine hidden in Swift 18 in a bag.
"With the help of JandK Police and Army, Punjab Police arrested Raveel Kataria, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Nafeez, Mukhtiar Ahmad, and Fiaz Ahmad, all residents of Uri in the Baramulla area of JandK," said DIG Bhargav.
