Ahead of the 12th round of India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks starting in New Delhi on Wednesday, India's High Commissioner expressed optimism that officials from both sides will "make something work" and find the "right fit" for a win-win deal.
High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami told that it is positive that both countries seem ready to make the necessary changes, recognizing the complexities of two economies of similar size and very different structures.
On the broader bilateral partnership, he expressed similar optimism about the "obvious synergy" between different sectors.
"I welcome it (the FTA)... My point is that as far as possible we would like to have a mutually beneficial free trade agreement going forward," the high commissioner said.
"I believe both sides want to make the necessary changes. Although we are both economies of the same size, we differ in both the structures of our economies and the complexity of our economies. So getting the right fit is very important,†he said.
