Rural leaders of 16 unions led by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) have been arrested across Punjab since Monday morning.
Those arrested are KMSC state president Sarvan Singh Pandher; Baldeep Singh, Press Secretary, BKU (Krantikari); Kanwardilip Singh, State Press Secretary of KMSC; Chamkaur Singh and Borh Singh, both principals of BKU (Behramke).

By the time of reporting, raids have been carried out to arrest some other farmer leaders.
The reason for the arrest was a threatening protest by those farm meadows in Chandigarh on August 22 against non-payment of compensation to flood-affected farmers.

These unions are not part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), although some SKM members have condemned the previous arrests of their union leaders. Till Sunday evening, senior officers of Chandigarh and Punjab police held talks with the leaders led by Sarvan Singh Pandher, which reportedly failed.
The official team was led by Chandigarh DGP Praveer Ranjan and Punjab Police ADGP Arpit Shukla. Two Constables of the Haryana Police also participated in the meeting.
