The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan have begun a rare diplomatic spat after several churches and houses belonging to the Christian community were burnt down in Pakistan's Punjab.
The UAE issued a statement over the weekend "strongly condemning" the vandalism of churches in the town of Jaranwala in Faisalabad district last week. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also advised Pakistan on the need to respect religious symbols and avoid provocation and polarization.
Responding to unnamed "comments by some governments on the violence in Jaranwala on August 16", Pakistan's foreign ministry defended itself saying that Pakistan will not rest until those responsible for the horrific acts in Jaranwala are caught and brought to justice before the court.
"The wheels of justice have been set in motion. Islamabad said the incident revitalized interfaith dialogue in Pakistan on tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding.
