Army men shot dead two Pakistani terrorists during an incursion in the Balakote sector of Poonch district early on Monday morning. A Pakistani-made AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 30 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, and medicines were found during the search.
The terrorists tried to penetrate when visibility was poor due to dense fog and bad weather. The terrorists, who were injured in the firing, turned away but died later, the army said. Defense Police Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal said that based on various intelligence agencies and police intelligence, terrorists were expected to cross the border from the Balakote sector. "Based on these inputs, our surveillance network has been put on high alert and several ambushes have been placed at an appropriate location," he said.

When the terrorists approached the ambush positions set up by the army, they were challenged and shot at. This forced the terrorists to flee. “However, as a result of effective fire, one terrorist fell to the ground near the LoC. After that, additional forces were brought into the area and the search began in the afternoon when the weather and visibility improved, Lt Col Bartwal said.
