The Mohali police are smart with their hand before a protest by farmer leaders of 16 unions led by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharshi Committee (KMSC) in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
Police officials said 75 percent of the district's police force is responsible for maintaining law and order in Mohali.
A large number of policemen have been deployed at all entry and exit points of the district. Police pickets and check posts have been set up at all vulnerable places in Mohali.
“Law and order will be maintained at any cost. Although the rally is in Chandigarh, we are not taking any chances. No anti-social element should be allowed; if anyone tries to create a ruckus, the police will act severely,” said a police officer.

Bandi Singh liberation activist Gurcharan Singh said, "We wholeheartedly support the protesters. The government has completely ignored the plight of the flood-ravaged farmers. We are also participating in the protest."

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) also condemned the government's lukewarm response but said they would not participate in the protests. Sixteen farmers' unions plan to stage a protest in Chandigarh on Tuesday against non-payment of compensation to flood-affected farmers.
