After BRICS decided to admit six new members, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the modernization and expansion of the group is a message that all global institutions must change with changing times.

At a press conference with BRICS leaders in Johannesburg, Modi said the addition of Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as new members will give new energy and direction to the group.

The decision to expand the five-country bloc was announced by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the end of the three-day BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

He said that the new member states will become part of the BRICS system from January 1, 2024.
In his statement, Modi said the decision to expand the bloc strengthens the confidence of many countries in a multi-polar world.
