Sensex, up for second day on encouraging macro data, steady global trend

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty rose for the second consecutive session on Monday after domestic macroeconomic data encouraged a strong trend in global markets.
Fresh foreign funds and intense buying in IT and commodities also boosted sentiment, traders said.
The benchmark BSE Sensex gained 240.98 points or 0.37 percent to settle at 65,628.14. During the day, it jumped 296.75 points or 0.45 percent to 65,683.91 points.
The Nifty rose 93.50 points, or 0.48 percent, to close at 19,528.80. Wipro was the biggest gainer in the Sensex pack at 4.34 percent, followed by HCL Tech, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, Infosys, Power Grid, Tata Consultancy Services and State Bank of India.
The rest included Mahindra and Mahindra, ITC, Axis Bank, Nestle, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Asian Paints.
In the Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong rose.

In the initial phase, greens were traded on the European market. The US market ended Friday in mostly positive territory. Manufacturing activity in India accelerated in August as new orders and output grew at the fastest pace in nearly three years, according to a survey released on Friday.
GST collections grew by 11 percent in August to over Rs 1.59 lakh crore, on the back of improved enforcement and reduced tax evasion. Experts predict that there will be many bigger mopeds in the coming festive season as well.

Domestic passenger car sales hit a record high in August, helping Maruti Suzuki beat monthly shipments on festive demand and continue strong sales of SUVs.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.09 percent to $88.64 a barrel.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were the buyers on Friday, buying shares worth 487.94 trillion rupees, according to exchange data.

The BSE barometer gained 555.75 points or 0.86 percent to 65,387.16 points on Friday. The Nifty gained 181.50 points or 0.94 percent to settle at 19,435.30.
