Gopal Baglay appointed Indian High Commissioner to Australia

Senior diplomat Gopal Baglay has been appointed as India's high commissioner to Australia.
In 1992, Baglay, an official of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the Indian high commissioner to Sri Lanka.
"Gopal Baglay, currently the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia," the Foreign Office said in a statement. Baglay replaces Manpreet Vohra as India's High Commissioner to Australia. He is expected to start this position in the near future. Baglay has held various positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, including its official spokesperson, joint secretary (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran), and most recently joint secretary to the Prime Minister. Baglay took up his position in Colombo in May 2020. Born on January 4, 1966, Baglay holds a master's degree in Chemistry from Lucknow University and speaks Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, English, Ukrainian, Russian and Nepali.
