Bandipora was the coldest kept place in Jammu and Kashmir with the base temperature in the north Kashmir region falling almost eight degrees underneath edge of freezing over, authorities said on Wednesday.

Snowless winter

Srinagar city recorded a base temperature of less 5.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, barely down from earlier night's less 5.3 degrees Celsius, the authorities said.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag locale, which fills in as one of the headquarters for the yearly Amarnath Yatra, recorded a base temperature of short 6.3 degrees Celsius. They said Qazigund town in south Kashmir recorded a low of short 5.4 degrees Celsius and the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of less 4.8 degrees Celsius. The base temperature in Kokernag town settled at less 2.3 degrees Celsius and in Kupwara at short 5.3 degrees Celsius.

A dry and to a great extent snowless winter in Kashmir has brought about freezing evenings and hotter than common days as Srinagar day temperatures were north of eight degrees over the ordinary temperature for this season, authorities said here.

Kashmir has been going through a drawn out drought and a 79 percent deficiency in precipitation was recorded for December while there has been no precipitation in many pieces of the valley in the initial three weeks of January.
