External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the upward trajectory of India-US relations was not affected in any way by allegations of India's involvement in the failed assassination plot. Last November, the United States charged an Indian man with plotting to kill Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York. In an exclusive interview with PTI late on Thursday, Jaishankar said the foundation of India-US relations is very strong and these allegations have not affected the relationship. “The United States has brought this to our attention in good faith because they believe that some information affects our systems,†he said. “We are looking into this. But I don’t think it has any impact at all on the fundamental direction of the upward trajectory of India-US relations,†the External Affairs Minister said during a free-wheeling chat at the PTI headquarters. Days after the United States alleged India's involvement in the plot, India set up a high-level inquiry committee to probe materials it received from the United States in connection with the case. Pannun, who is wanted in India on terrorism charges, is a dual citizen of the United States and Canada. Last month, the Washington Post named an Indian official accused of plotting to kill Pannun. Days later, India said the report made "unjustified and unsubstantiated" allegations of serious problems and that an investigation into the matter was underway. “I think today we have a very strong strategic convergence with the United States,†Jaishankar said, listing various areas of cooperation.
