United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his assertion that he “resolved” the recent disputes between India and Pakistan through “trade. ”
“If one examines what we have just done with Pakistan and India, we have settled everything, and I believe I accomplished this through trade,” Trump stated during remarks in the Oval Office while meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
He mentioned that the United States is engaged in a “big deal” with both nations.
“And I asked, ‘What is happening here? ’” Trump remarked.
“Someone had to be the last to initiate hostilities. However, the conflict was escalating increasingly, intensifying and deepening within the nations. We communicated with them, and I believe, although reluctantly, that we managed to come to an agreement. Yet two days later, an incident occurs, and they attribute the blame to Trump.
“But Pakistan possesses some remarkable individuals and truly great leaders. And India is my friend, Modi,” Trump stated, to which the South African president responded, “Modi, mutual friend. ”
“He’s an outstanding individual, and I contacted both of them. It’s progress,” Trump commented.
The U. S. President has consistently claimed that he “assisted in resolving” the tensions between India and Pakistan.
India conducted targeted strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ against terrorist infrastructure on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack that resulted in 26 fatalities.
Subsequently, Pakistan attempted to strike Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian forces executed a vigorous counter-attack on numerous Pakistani military sites.
India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to cease military hostilities after four days of severe cross-border drone and missile engagements.
On May 10, Trump announced that India and Pakistan had consented to a “full and immediate” cessation of hostilities following a “long night” of talks facilitated by Washington.
