On the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs, which are set on May 29 and 30 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, three of the top four finishers traveled to the city.
Gujarat Titans practiced at the match site today while table-toppers Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians arrived in the city this evening. Out of the four teams, Punjab won two of their four home games here, Bangalore won one, and Gujarat and Mumbai will play their first game of the season at Mullanpur.
On May 29, the stadium will host the first qualifier between the Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. On May 30, the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians will play the eliminator. The second qualifier and the final will be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The IPL Governing Council chose the new locations after taking the weather and other factors into account.
Four Punjab League stage home games versus Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals were previously held at the Mullanpur venue. The PCA is hosting the playoffs at the new stadium for the first time.
Shubhman Gill, a local boy and captain, led the Gujarati team in a practice session on Tuesday. After being selected as the captain of the Indian cricket Test team, Gill will play at his ground for the first time. Senior officials, groundskeepers, technical personnel, and others who witnessed Gill's development at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali and his ascent to the role of captain of the Indian team welcomed him warmly at his home field.
According to sources, Gill will also receive recognition from the PCA authority for being the third state-born player to be named the regular captain of the Indian Test team. It is encouraging to see him mature throughout the years. A groundskeeper here remarked, "I have been working with the stadium for twenty years, and I still remember the period when he was just another youngster coming here with the hope of a brighter future."
