May 28, 2025: According to sources who spoke to Times Now, four states that border Pakistan - Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir will participate in a civil defense mock practice on Thursday night. The last time mock drills were held was on May 7, which was also the day of Operation Sindoor, India's counterterrorism campaign against Pakistan.
A order was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) requesting that many Indian states hold civil defense mock drills. The mock drills will cover a variety of tasks, such as testing the functioning of control rooms and shadow control rooms, operationalizing hotline and radio-communication linkages with the Indian Air Force (IAF), and educating people on civil defense topics.
The May 7 simulated drills also examined the implementation of crash blackout procedures, the early camouflage of critical assets and plants, and the updating and practicing of evacuation plans.
The Pahalgam incident on April 22 sparked a four-day war between India and Pakistan. In the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, militants opened fire on 26 civilians, the majority of them were tourists. India took a number of punitive actions against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari land-transit, canceling visas, and blocking Pakistani aircraft from using Indian airspace. India also promised to severely punish those responsible for the attack, citing cross-border connections to the horrifying incident.
The purpose of the May 7 simulated drills was to enable civilians defend themselves in the case of a "hostile attack" by focusing primarily on civil defense components.
